Mission Endowment Fund
Goals: Immanuel is committed to sharing,
through our words and actions, the life changing message of Jesus
in our community,
our country, and throughout the world. Reaching out to the world
with the Hope and Love of God is not only part of the Great Commission
(Matthew 28:18-20) but is part of our commitment at Immanuel.
To support those who desire to reach out to a hurting world, the
Mission Endowment Fund was established. The Fund began with a
generous gift made by Faye Hagerling in memory of her late husband
Glenn. Others have also contributed and it is hoped as people
continue to make donations, the fund will assist many others reach
out in Jesus name to people locally and abroad.
Purpose: Contributions to the Mission Endowment Fund will remain
in the fund, while interest income will be available each year
to help support mission causes, mission trips involving members
of Immanuel, or special needs related to our existing missionaries.
Contributions: Contributions to the fund
are welcome at any time to help support Immanuel’s mission efforts. It is hoped
that the fund will continue to grow through gifts and thus be
able to help many others. Gifts can be sent directly to the church
or placed in the weekly offering, marked Mission Endowment Fund.
Contributions can be made to honor a person or event or as a special
gift to missions.
Application Process: Applications are welcomed and encouraged
from anyone planning to participate in a mission’s activity
or when a special need arises among the missionaries supported
by Immanuel Church. Completed applications should be returned
to the church office. The Missions/Outreach Team will contact
the applicant after the application has been reviewed.
Who may apply: Proceeds from the Mission Endowment Fund are
intended for use either by members of Immanuel or their
young adult children
involved in some mission activity or by missionaries explicitly
supported by Immanuel. Examples of possible uses include,
but are not limited to: mission trips, special mission projects
(e.g. purchasing Bibles or materials), or for missionary
special needs.
Applications must be submitted for each funding request
by the
applicant themselves. The funds must be used in a manner
consistent with the original application request. SPECIAL
NOTE: It is
expected that grant awardees will provide to the Missions/Outreach
Team
a post-mission report on the use of the funds, either orally
or in writing. If appropriate, the Missions/Outreach team
may also
request that the report be shared with the congregation
as well.
When to apply and distribution of funds: Applications are
generally considered twice a year. Application deadlines
are April 15th
or September 15th. The Missions/Outreach team will hold
a special session at the end of each application period
to determine
funding
awards. The Missions/Outreach Team will evaluate the purpose
of the mission activity, the intended use of funds, and
the lasting
value of the proposed activity. Decisions will be made
within 2 weeks after the application deadlines (i.e. by May
1st
or October 1st, respectively) and applicants will be notified.
Funds will
be distributed at the point of need identified by the
applicant, up to 6 months after the application deadline.
If no qualified
applicants apply in a given period, the applicable funds
will
be rolled over to the next distribution period. SPECIAL
NOTE: The Missions/Outreach Team understands that applicants
may
not be able to apply by the given deadlines when special
opportunities arise. Therefore, the Missions/Outreach
Team reserves the
right
to consider off-cycle applications, when deemed appropriate
with the spirit and intent of both the application process
and the
Mission Endowment Fund.
How much funding may be awarded: The amount
of funding will vary based on the amount of money in the Endowment
holding fund, the number of applicants,
and the
funding needs per applicant. Currently awards are generally
between $100 and $300. It is hoped as the fund grows
that more assistance
will be available. If the need is less than $100, alternative
ways to raise funds may be considered. The Missions/Outreach
Team can pre-approve awards up to $500, while larger
grants need approval
by the Immanuel Deacon Board.
